My workday as a Service Engineer starts early. After one last quick check - do I have everything with me? - I hop in the car and head to the customer. Luckily, it’s not a long drive today, and since I did most of the prep work yesterday, I’ll be able to get started right away. That means gathering parts, checking my tools, and making sure all the final details with the customer are taken care of. That preparation is really key and helps me do my job efficiently and effectively.
Once I arrive, I start with a quick chat with the customer. Any updates or unusual issues? While I’m working on the scheduled maintenance, the customer tells me there’s a malfunction in another part of the system. No problem, I take a look right away. After some testing, reading the error codes, and replacing a faulty component, everything is running smoothly again. A quick test, double-check everything, and we’re good to go.
After a few hours, the system is back up and running properly. I go over everything with the customer, he signs the service report, and I give a short explanation of the work I’ve done. Satisfied, I say goodbye and hop back in the car, heading to Breda, where a few more jobs are waiting for me.
After lunch, I start working on a repair for a device that a customer shipped in. Luckily, the issue turns out to be pretty easy to fix. I order the necessary parts right away. They’re in stock, so the customer will get the device back quickly.
Next, I start preparing a few robots for integration. We always do some standard testing in advance and make minor adjustments. That way, we make sure everything works perfectly before my colleagues install them on a platform.
At the end of the day, I take some time to update my reports. It might seem like a small task, but it’s super important. It helps us keep everything organized and ensures we know exactly where each project stands.
Working as a Service Engineer is varied and challenging. No two days are the same, and you never quite know what to expect. But that variety - and solving technical challenges - is exactly what makes this job so much fun. On to tomorrow!
